The first ever bio-ethanol plant in Bulgaria is property of "Evroetil" AD.
The factory is built on 55 000,00 sq. m. near the railway transport links, on the outskirts of town Alfatar, municipality Silistra. The main raw material for production of bioethanol is corn and wheat, which determines the location of the plant in this region as particularly appropriate in terms of supply of raw materials. The factory is only 20 km away from the river port and border crossing in Silistra, 110 km from sea port of Varna and in close proximity to first and second class roads in Bulgaria.
The construction of the plant in Alfatar began in 2004, as for project implementation and delivery of equipment and facilities of the future plant for bioethanol are engaged specialists at home and abroad. Installations of the plant are purchased from world famous and imposed in its field companies as - VB Vogelbusch USA - The Bioprocess Company, MDT MUSSI Italy - Distillation & Evaporation Technologies. Officially opened on September 2, 2006 by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Georgi Parvanov.
The initial investment is 15 million euro. A part of it is bank loan, the other part is own funds of "Viva Agroteks" Ltd, which is a shareholder in "Evroetil" AD.
The factory for ethanol and bioethanol have several industrial units - mill, fermentation, molecular separators, decanter, carbon dioxide, finished goods warehouse, outdoor warehouse, warehouse shlempa, boiler-room working with straw and another one with oil, administration building, workshops, warehouses, laboratory, green areas, asphalt and concrete sites, sidewalks, control point for access to the factory, as well as several others systems for access control and for time and attendance.
The factory constantly employs about 120 people. In municipality with high unemployment such as Alfatar, "Evroetil" AD has important economic and social contribution to the community and reduces unemployment.
Initially, the factory has a capacity of 30,000 liters, but installations are able to produce bioethanol to 120,000 liters per 24 hours of continuous production cycle.
The bioethanol in its nature is addition to already known to us fuels by mixing with them without further heat treatment. By European standards for fuel additives in the EU, the bioethanol must be mixed with gasoline at a ratio of 5% bioethanol and 95% gasoline.
The advantages of bioethanol are that it is a renewable energy source, gives better results by high octane number and effective engine operation. Reduces harmful emissions released into the atmosphere and reserves the ozone formation. The bioethanol is free of toxic components, sulfur-free and has a waste-free production. As a by-product of bioethanol the shlempa - or grain mash, which is the preferred feed for the livestock industry /dairy and meat / pigs, sheep and by rearing of poultry. The proposed options of fodder are: wet option containing 8% dry substance, partially dried containing from 25 to 30% dry substance and dry option / DDGS / containing 90 to 92% dry substance.
